The peace agreement with the pro-talk group of ULFA, according to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, would have a ripple effect across the Northeast.


In response to messages from various BJP leaders thanking him on signing the deal, he said that every Indian's goal of a peaceful, wealthy, and thriving Northeast is being realized thanks to PM Narendra Modi's unwavering efforts. He said that the accord with ULFA would guarantee the comprehensive development of the whole area, not only Assam. "With the blessings of the Honorable Prime Minister, the North East together is going to add to building a developed India," Sarma said in a tweet.


The Chief Minister expressed his belief that violence had no place in the current world and expressed the hope that this would encourage others to join the mainstream and support the development of the country. "People want ULFA to be permanently at peace so that development can go on unabatedly," he said. "With the intervention of the Honorable Prime Minister and the Honorable Home Minister in addition to the peace ruling in the state, Assam is moving towards new heights," Sarma wrote.


In the presence of the Chief Minister as well as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Friday in New Delhi by the pro-talk side ULFA, the Center, and the state administration.
