According to the source, the matter stems from a complaint that Saamana's executive editor Raut, a member of the Rajya Sabha, received from Nitin Bhutada, the BJP's Yavatmal district coordinator.

According to a senior source on Tuesday, Yavatmal police have filed a formal complaint (FIR) against Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on charges of sedition and other violations for allegedly penning an offensive essay against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the party organ Saamana.


According to the source, the matter stems from a complaint that Saamana's executive editor Raut, a member of the Rajya Sabha, received from Nitin Bhutada, the BJP's Yavatmal district coordinator.


Bhutada said in the complaint that on December 10, Raut had written an offensive piece against Prime Minister Modi.


At the Umarkhed police station here on Monday, Raut was charged with sedition under IPC sections 124 (A) and 153 (A), which deal with inciting hatred amongst groups based on factors like as religion, race, place of birth, domicile, language, etc. According to the official, a case was filed under. ) and 505 (2) (statements that foster animosity, hostility, or ill will amongst classes).


He said, "We will look into the complaint and have filed a case in accordance with it."
