Now, according to Narayana Murthy, he put up 85–90 hours: Is it, however, really productive?

Narayana Murthy learned from his parents that the only way out of poverty was to work hard. This is when an individual maximizes their production per hour, in his opinion.

Co-founder of Infosys Narayana Murthy has said that he worked seventy hours a week when he started the firm and has recommended that young Indians work seventy hours a week as well. Up until 1994, Murthy worked more than 85 to 90 hours a week, he told The Economic Times.

"I used to be in the office at 6:20 in the morning and leave the office at 8:30 at night and worked six days a week," he said in an interview with ET. "I know that whatever nation prospered , He did it through hard work."

His parents instilled in him the belief that the only way out of poverty was to work hard. The article goes on to say that this is the time when an individual maximizes their production per hour.

He went on to say, "During my entire professional life of more than 40 years, I worked 70 hours a week." By 1994, when the workweek was six days, I was putting in at least eighty to ninety hours a week. That's not a waste," the Economic Times cited him as saying.

Murthy had informed former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai earlier in October that in order for India to compete with China and Japan, it would need to boost work efficiency.

Does productivity correlate with the quantity of workdays?

A research conducted in the UK found that "working less" increased workers' productivity and work-life balance. This was reported by Mint earlier in the year. In an experiment, over 3,000 workers in more than 60 organizations in Britain were given the option to work one less day a week without receiving a wage raise. The higher production and efficiency, according to the report, will cause more than nine out of 10 businesses to either continue or intend to do so.

In the meantime, India is also gradually becoming more and more in favor of the 4-day work week concept. For instance, a measure allowing employees to take three days of vacation every week in lieu of working twelve hours a day was enacted by the Karnataka Assembly.

Microsoft Japan conducted an experiment in August 2019 when workers received paid vacations every Friday, according to a report by Sora News 24. The end effect was a sharp rise in productivity. Based on revenues per employee, workers in August 2019 were over 40% more productive than they were in the same month last year.

Ronnie Screwvala, an Indian filmmaker and entrepreneur, is well-known on social media for being paid fairly for his labor. Higher quality work produced than more hours worked.
