Government workers in West Bengal will get a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance starting next year.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made this declaration during the opening of the Kolkata Christmas Carnival. West Bengali government workers have been demonstrating for a DA raise for over a year.

Mamata Banerjee said that, from January 1, 2024, all 14 lakh state government workers, as well as the teaching and non-teaching personnel of all schools, colleges, and institutions, as well as all retirees, will get a 4 percent rise in disability benefits.

An extra cost of Rs 2,400 crore would be borne by the state government to guarantee the rise in allowances. It is well known that retirees and government workers get dearness allowance as part of their pay.
