In addition to his positions in economic governance, Mr. Bajaj led the National Investment as well as Infrastructure Fund and was a director on the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as well as the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India.


Today, Tarun Bajaj (61), who will serve as an independent director on the board for a term of five years beginning on December 1, 2023, was appointed by Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL).


With effect from December 1, 2023, Tarun Bajaj will serve as an independent director on the board of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) for a term of five years. With extensive expertise, Shri Bajaj, 61, has been employed in the Indian Administrative Service since 1988, namely in the Haryana cadre.


Mr. Bajaj served as the Government of India's Revenue Secretary until his retirement in November 2022. In this capacity, he was instrumental in stabilizing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and greatly boosting income tax and GST revenue collections. He worked to improve efficiency and transparency in the administration of direct and indirect taxes by updating technology.


"Tarun has shaped important financial initiatives of the Government of India and has an intuitive understanding of the nation's economic policy. HUL would surely benefit from his extensive background in management, public policy, and administration, according to Non-Executive Chairman Nitin Paranjape.


As the Secretary of Economic Affairs, Mr. Bajaj was instrumental in developing the government's economic strategy in the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic. This included keeping an eye on how different humanitarian initiatives and economic stimulus plans were being carried out.


In addition to his positions in economic governance, Mr. Bajaj led the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund and was a director on the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India. In addition, he served as Alternate Governor of India for the entire globe Bank, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, as well as New Development Bank, as well as Governor of India for the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
