Give him an extension else." Gautam Gambhir on maintaining Rahul Dravid as Team India's coach

Rahul Dravid's tenure as the men's cricket team's head coach in India has been extended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the 2023 World Cup.

In the midst of conjecture on the identity of the next men's cricket team head coach for India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that current head coach Rahul Dravid's contract would be extended past the 2023 World Cup. The Captain has not yet gotten formal word that his term has been extended.

In the midst of the debate over who should lead Team India as head coach, former opener Gautam Gambhir shared his thoughts on the best applicant. The former cricket player for Team India said in a recent interview with Sportskeeda that coaches for nations like Pakistan and India have to be Indian or Pakistani. Regarding Rahul Dravid's renewal as Team India's head coach, he said that only an Indian, and no other national, should hold that position.

Gambhir said to Pakistan's legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram on the sports news website, "Countries like India and Pakistan should be coached by an Indian or a Pakistani." Additionally, he said that an Indian or a Pakistani should always represent both nations. Pakistanis ought to carry it out.

He also brought up how some people disagree with him, citing India's victory in the World Cup under Gary Kirsten. He constantly responds by saying that although foreign coaches could contribute their knowledge to the squad, they might not have the same emotional ties to the group and the country.

"No foreign coach can ever have the same emotion that Rahul Dravid has for that blue or white T-shirt. For a Pakistani, a green or white shirt has the same meaning. There is so much in our past that we do not need to explore elsewhere. Cricket was not invented in our nation ten or fifteen years ago. He said to Sportskeeda, "We have players who won us the World Cup."

In reference to the significance of sports, he said that while choosing a coach for India's sports team, commercial and financial considerations must be taken into account. Still, he insisted on stressing how crucial emotional perspectives are to the game.

"Sports include a lot of emotion. They recall the blood, sweat, and tears they provided when they wore that jersey, which is an even more significant emotional aspect at play than the commercial and financial ones. Give Rahul Dravid the extension if he requests one. Or maybe India's head coach ought to be an Indian, according to Gambhir.
