Speaker says the US House will soon vote on the Biden impeachment investigation

Mike Johnson tells Fox that he thinks there are enough votes to start the GOP convention after months of Republican vetting.

Speaker of the US House Mike Johnson said on Saturday that Republicans are almost ready to vote to officially begin an investigation into Joe Biden's impeachment.

Johnson said, "I think it's something we have to do at this time," when making an appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday.

In an attempt to uncover misconduct that would serve as justification for Biden's impeachment, Republicans have been looking into the financial transactions of the senator and his son Hunter for months. Republicans have openly voiced doubts about whether there is sufficient evidence to support an impeachment investigation, thus the whole House has not yet voted to legally approve one.

Citing a 2020 opinion from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel that demands a full House vote before requiring the provision of records or interviews by a House committee, the White House compelled the partial surrender of material. GOP attempts to accomplish this have been denied.

We conclude that, before the committee receives documents supporting the House's "sole power of impeachment," it should explicitly authorize a committee to conduct an impeachment inquiry as well as use the necessitate process in that investigation, or compel the production of testimony," the memorandum stated.

Accompanied by GOP convention chairperson Elise Stefanik, Johnson said that obtaining information from the White House was a "necessary step" and that she was certain there were sufficient votes to approve the probe.

"It was twice utilized by Democrats for blatantly partisan political ends, and Alice and I were both members of the impeachment defense team for Donald Trump. We denounced its application. This is not like that at all. Recall that we are a squad that follows the rules. We need to do this extremely methodically," he said.

Thus far, the Republican inquiry has uncovered several false allegations, but it has also produced little hard evidence. Several Republican-called expert witnesses said at the September hearing that they did not think there was sufficient evidence to support impeachment.

In addition, Hunter Biden has promised to appear in public before committees looking into his business activities.
