You have until December 31, 2023, to decide whether to accept or reject nominations for your mutual funds and demat account. By December 31, 2023, if you haven't done this, SEBI could stop the debit from your account.


December 31, 2023, is a crucial day whether you invest in the stock market via mutual funds or a demat account. The deadline for adding a candidate to a demat account and mutual fund is only December 31, 2023. It is now required by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). There aren't many days left in this scenario for you to add a nominee to your demat account and mutual funds.


If you choose not to use the nomination option, or if you add a nominee to your mutual fund and demat account before December 31, 2023. By December 31, 2023, if you haven't done this, SEBI could stop the debit from your account. You won't be allowed to withdraw money from your mutual fund and demat accounts if SEBI takes such action.


You won't be allowed to trade with the money in your demat account if you don't add the nominee by this deadline. It is not necessary to edit it if the candidate has already been added.


Methods for adding a nominee to a demat account


Visit the NSDL site at nsdl.co.in first.


Navigate to this website's homepage and choose the "Nominate Online" option.

Following this, a new page will load and ask for your PAN, OTP, DP ID, and Client ID.

You have two choices now that you are aware of these things. "I wish to nominate" and "I do not wish to nominate" are these two choices.


A new page with the candidate's information will appear if you choose to add a nomination.


Following that, you will need to use Aadhaar to e-sign documents. The OTP on the mobile device linked to the UIDAI will be used to finish this task.


How does a mutual fund portfolio nominee become added?


Nominations for mutual fund portfolios may be made at any time before or after you begin investing.


You may do this by going to the NSDL or mutual fund house's official websites and updating the nominee.


The maximum number of nominations for a mutual fund is three.


You may choose which candidate will get which portion at the time of nomination.


The signatures of every unit owner are required for this nomination.

if the units are held by the depository and you invest using your demat account. In such a case, the mutual fund holding will be subject to the same nomination that governs the unit holders and the depository.
