Bank Holiday: The government responded to the major news about the two holidays for bank personnel

Bank Holiday 2023: The Rajya Sabha MP posed the following query: "Has the Bank Union or Indian Bank Association (IBA) made any demands or proposals about two vacations in a week for the staff of nationalized banks? Or does such a plan exist? Do you intend to put it into practice?

A significant update has been released about the long-standing problem of bank staff having two holidays each week. On the first day of the winter session, the Rajya Sabha was presented with important information about this topic by the government. Rajya Sabha MP Sumitra Balmiki questioned the administration over bank workers' leaves on behalf of the BJP.

"Has any demand or proposal been made by the Bank Union or IBA i.e. Indian Bank Association regarding two holidays in a week for the employees of nationalized banks?" he posed to the government on the floor of Parliament. Or is there a strategy in place to carry it out? Do you intend to do so?

The reaction of the government

In response to this matter, Union Minister of State for Finance Bhagwad Karad stated that, in fact, the IBA has made a proposal pertaining to employee leave on the first Saturday of each month. After the Workmen's Union/Officers' Association and the IBA signed the Tenth Bipartite Agreement/Seventh Joint Note, the government, exercising its authority under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, declared the second and fourth Saturdays of each month to be public holidays, as announced in Notification dated 20.8.2015.
