What you should know about "falling back" one hour this weekend due to daylight saving time in CT

In Connecticut, falling temperatures and fewer hours of sunshine signal more than simply the arrival of winter. Additionally, it signals the conclusion of daylight saving time.

Time changes by one hour on Sunday, which means that Connecticut and most of the country may turn back the clocks at two in the morning. Time zones are reset to normal time by resetting the clocks by one hour. March is when majority of the country observes daylight saving time, when time is advanced by one hour.

Why is daylight saving time observed?

TIME Magazine claims that the tradition of changing the clocks originated in Britain in the early 20th century, when an article stressing the value of utilizing sunshine for "increased enjoyment" and reducing power costs was published. According to the report, the United States enacted daylight saving time in 1918, during World War I, to reduce the amount of fuel required to operate lights at night.

What distinguishes permanently implementing DST from just doing away with it?

The "saving daylight" period lasts from March to the beginning of November, during which time clocks are advanced by one hour.

When daylight saving time is abolished, normal time is kept all year round. In November, locals would reset their clocks, and they wouldn't do it again. If it were permanent, daylight saving time would continue, with clocks rolling forward one hour in March and never falling back.

What is the opinion of Connecticut lawmakers about daylight saving time?

Over the years, there has been much discussion about eliminating daylight saving time, and Connecticut is not an exception.

Six years ago, state representative Kurt Vail, a Republican from Stafford, sponsored legislation to abolish daylight saving time. He favors Connecticut and the other Northeastern states ending Daylight Saving Time together, rather than separately. The National Conference of State Legislatures reports that 29 states have either proposed or are presently debating ending Daylight Saving Time. Nevertheless, pointing to possible disturbances to viewers, Michael Ryan, president of the Connecticut Broadcaster's Association, has voiced resistance to Vail's plan.

What opinions do different groups have on daylight saving time?

According to a representative for the state's Department of Consumer Protection, pubs and restaurants that serve alcohol do not get an additional hour on tap on Sunday, when Connecticut falls back one hour to one in the morning.

Furthermore, the American Medical Association demanded that Daylight Saving Time terminate in November 2022. According to a press release issued by the organization, Americans are experiencing health issues related to sleep and mental disorders as a result of circadian rhythm disruptions brought on by the changing of the clocks.

In which states is daylight saving time not observed?

Hawaii and Arizona are the only states that do not follow daylight saving time, according to an Axios article. The Navajo Nation, which encompasses a part of northeastern Arizona, is an exception.

Puerto Rico and Guam are two US territory that do not use daylight saving time.
