South Korea: A man who praised the North in a poem received a 14-month prison term
A 68-year-old man was given a 14-month jail term by a South Korean court for glorifying the North in a poem.
In a 2016 piece published in the North's official media, Lee Yun-seop reportedly promoted unification, according to claims from South Korean media.
He said that citizens would get free housing, healthcare, and education if Pyongyang's communist government unified the two Koreas.
A statute that forbids praising North Korea in public was the basis for his conviction.
Lee also made the case that in a unified Korea, fewer individuals would commit suicide or continue to be in debt in an essay titled Means of Unification.
