Railway Ticket Concession: Significant announcement on senior citizen price discount from Railways

Update on Senior Citizen Ticket Concession: After taking into account the requested reductions in train rates, several groups and organizations have decided to proceed with this decision. Railways has determined that no passenger would get a reduction on their train price, with a few exceptions.

Indian Railways News: The senior citizen ticket reduction offered during the Corona period has been discontinued by the Railway Ministry. Following that, other groups made requests to reinstate the fare concessions. In addition, the opposition Members of Parliament brought up the subject of the train ticket reduction. However, the administration has recently made a decision in this respect. The story reported in Dainik Bhaskar states that the train price reduction granted to travelers would not be reimbursed.

Decision made after taking demand into account

The press said that several committees and groups reached this choice after taking the public's wishes into account. Following this, the Railways determined that no passenger would be excluded from paying the train ticket, unless there were certain exceptional circumstances. The Railways claim that the tariff subsidies would remain unchanged, which is why they are not reintroducing the discount. However, there won't be any more opportunity for rest.

For Rs 55, 100 tickets

The Railway Minister recently said on a show that the Railways are offering customers tickets worth Rs 100 for only Rs 55. He had said that discounted tickets are already being offered by Railways. Following this, it has become evident that the concessions made to other groups, such as elderly people, prior to 2020 will not be continued in the future. Prior to Corona, men and women over the ages of 60 and 58 had fare concessions till March 2020.

The Railways discontinued this discount in 2020. Parliamentary committees, several groups, and Members of Parliament have all supported reinstating the exemption on this. Nonetheless, the Railways have opted to maintain the ticket discounts for travelers with certain critical illnesses, such as cancer. According to Railways, there will be more amenities in the near future. For example, ladies and the elderly will be given preference for lower berths without having to pay an additional fee.
