Speaking to PTI, Akhtar said that the EdCIL has been tasked with creating a plan outlining the construction schedule and the necessary money for the development of the medical institution.

The EdCIL, a miniratna public sector company under the Ministry of Education, has been tasked with creating a proposal for the money needed to construct Jamia Millia Islamia's first medical college, Vice-Chancellor Najma Akhtar said. Speaking to PTI, Akhtar said that the EdCIL has been tasked with creating a plan outlining the construction schedule and the necessary money for the development of the medical institution.

"We have requested a proposal from the EdCIL detailing the required funding and the development plan for the medical facility. The new vice-chancellor will be able to go to work on it as soon as the proposal is received," she said. According to Akhtar, a number of private bidders have shown interest in funding the project.

She also said how several hospitals have shown a readiness to initially share their facilities with the university's medical faculty. "Several hospitals have stated in the initial years, they will be willing to donate (their facilities) alongside us," Akhtar said.

The medical college will be housed in a 10-story structure now used by the school of Medicine and Health Sciences on campus. A separate plot of land estimated to be about five acres in size has been designated for the construction of the hospital. Next year, the medical college will begin accepting applications from a class of around 150 students.

"If everything goes in excellent pace, we can start our first batch of with a maximum of 150 students from next year," Akhtar said. The university is now in discussions with financing organizations in Dubai to launch its first offshore campus, which will be located in the Dubai International Academic City. The Center has not yet approved the proposal for the same.
