The opinions of job seekers on who should be present during pay talks are divided; in a poll, 41% of respondents said that only the HR department should be present, while another 41% said that both HR and their potential reporting supervisors should be there.

As per a job site Naukri exclusive poll, just 22 percent of jobseekers said their potential line managers were present during pay talks.

Fourteen percent of respondents said that a human resources representative and the reporting manager need to be present. In the poll of more than 32,000 applicants, an equal number said that they would want HR to attend. The poll was completed in October.

An HR professional and the job seeker negotiate a pay in most cases. After the candidate obtains a job offer after an evaluation or interview with the potential boss, the procedure usually starts.

The manager is consulted once salary figures are reviewed with the HR staff, and discussions over salaries carry on until a consensus is achieved. The goal of this procedure is to satisfy the demands of both the employer and the employee while guaranteeing equitable remuneration.
