It is probable that the LS ethics committee would recommend TMC MP Mahua Moitra's dismissal

Later on Thursday, the committee led by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar will convene to endorse its draft report, a move that is sure to spark intense debate among the panel's opposition members.

It has come to light that the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee, which was investigating the "cash-for-query" claims made against TMC MP Mahua Moitra, has recommended that she be removed from the Lower House of Parliament due to "unethical conduct" that might have a negative effect on national security.

Later on Thursday, the committee led by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar will convene to endorse its draft report, a move that is sure to spark intense debate among the panel's opposition members.

It has denounced as "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal" Moitra's alleged sharing of her parliamentary log-in credentials without a businessman, since it has demanded that the government launch a timely legal and institutional investigation.

It has said that the government need to look into the purported money trail that connects her to businessman Darshan Hiranandani as part of a quid pro quo.

In addition, the committee has said that one of its most outspoken opposition members, BSP MP Danish Ali, ought to get a reprimand for "twisting" the purpose of Sonkar of Moitra's queries during its most recent hearing on November 2.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had gone to Speaker Om Birla of the Lok Sabha with accusations against Moitra, saying that she had asked questions in the legislature to focus on the Adani Group at businessman Hiranandani's request in return for gifts and payments.

Seven BJP members, three Congressmen members, one member respectively from the BSP, Shiv Sena, YSRCP, CPI(M), and JD(U) make up the committee of fifteen.

At the November 2 meeting, all five opposition members withdrew, claiming that Sonkar had questioned the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP about her travels, hotel stay, and phone conversations in a personal and obscene manner.

In a similar but unrelated incident, Dubey said on Wednesday that the Lokpal has directed the CBI to investigate his allegations against Moitra for suspected corruption.

Retaliating, Moitra said that the CBI must first register a formal complaint on the Rs 13,000-crore Adani coal "fraudulent". "National security issue is how questionable foreign portfolio investor (FPI) sponsored (inc Chinese & UAE ) Adani firms buying Indian ports & airports ... Then CBI welcome the public to count my shoes," she said in a post on X.
