Israel-Hamas conflict: Egypt obtains a list of 39 Palestinians and 13 Israelis who will be freed today
Egypt said that it has obtained a list of the 39 Palestinians and 13 Israelis who were to be freed on Sunday as part of a cease-fire mediated by Qatar and Egypt.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the director of Egypt's State Information Service (SIS), Egypt has received a list of thirteen Israelis and thirty-nine Palestinians who are set to be released on Sunday. Egypt and Qatar will have mediated the third round of four-day cease-fire accords.
SIS said in a statement that "the ceasefire is progressing without any hindrances," according to Reuters. According to the report, 120 relief trucks, including two carrying cooking gas and two gasoline trucks, arrived in Gaza on Sunday from Egypt.
To date, how many Palestinians and Israelis have been freed?
Day 1: On Friday, the first day the truce went into force, Hamas and Israel exchanged messages. 24 prisoners, including 10 Thai nationals, 1 Filipino, and 13 Israeli women and children, were freed by Hamas from Gaza. Al Jazeera reported that in return, 15 males and 24 Palestinian women, including two children under the age of 18, who had been detained as captives in Israel were freed.
Day 2: The Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas freed 17 captives later on Saturday, including 13 and four Thai nationals. Seven of the 13 Israelis were either youngsters or teens, and six of them were women. Yahel Shoham, age three, was the youngest. According to Reuters, Palestinian news agency WAFA cited 39 Palestinians—six women and thirty-three teenagers—who had been released from two jails by Israel in exchange. Hours of delay were experienced on Saturday for a second exchange after Hamas's accusation that Israel had broken the deal.
According to Prime Minister Shretha Thawisin on social networking site X, the four Thais who were freed on Saturday "want to take a bath and contact their relatives". "All were safe and showed few side effects," he said.
Day 3: As of right now, the third round of exchanges is planned to happen later on Sunday at the Rafah border. On Sunday, the third day of the hostage releases from Gaza, at least one US citizen is expected to be released, according to the US National Security Advisor.
At least fifty inmates are anticipated to be freed during the four-day truce, leaving an estimated 190 captives in Gaza. 150 Palestinian detainees are anticipated to be freed in return.
According to reports, the US, Egypt, and Qatar are pressing to keep the truce in place beyond Monday. It's unclear, however, whether this will really occur. If Hamas kept releasing at least ten captives per day, Israel has said that the truce may be prolonged. One Palestinian source said that there may have been 100 captives released.
Israel-Hamas conflict
Maintaining the truce between Israel and Hamas required mediation by Egypt and Qatar. This is the first cease-fire since Hamas militants stormed southern Israel on October 7, murdering 1,200 people and capturing around 240 captives.
Israel promised to destroy the Hamas terrorists who control Gaza in retaliation for that assault, and it began shelling the region and conducting ground operations in the north. About 40% of the 14,800 fatalities, according to Palestinian health authorities on Saturday, were youngsters.
Doctors and local sources report that late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, Israeli troops murdered seven Palestinians, including two youngsters, and at least one shooter in the West Bank, where violence had flared up.
The armed branch of Hamas also said on Sunday that four of its military leaders, including Ahmed al Ghandour, the commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade, had been killed in the Gaza Strip. But it remained unclear when exactly he was killed.
