PTI Sindh Chairman Haleem Adil Sheikh uploaded the petition, which named retired Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi and the Cabinet Secretary, Chief Secretary, as well the Federation through the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as respondents. The cricketer-turned-politician's party was ordered by the ECP to undertake intra-party elections within 20 days in order to keep the bat as its electoral symbol. The ECP said that the party had not held transparent elections in accordance with the party's constitution. On Friday, the appeal was submitted.

The petitioners argued that PTI faced several obstacles, including as charges against its leadership and limitations on its freedom of expression, and that there was "complete collusion" among the respondents, indicating an intent to prevent the party from running in the elections.


The party also claimed that the government was destroying party officials' homes and that it was forbidden from holding conferences and meetings. According to PTI, these acts were part of a deliberate effort to limit the party's power and stifle its members' basic rights, with the goal of preventing the party from freely participating in elections.


Additionally, the petitioners claimed to have "serious apprehensions that this was done in order to give the political symbol of PTI to some other 'preferred' movement of the respondents." 


Khan is a household name in cricket due to his past success as an international player. In the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, he is being held on many crimes.


PTI was given a deadline by the electoral Commission in August to hold the polls or risk losing its eligibility to get the electoral symbol.


According to the party's constitution, the PTI elections were supposed to take place on June 13, 2021, but the electoral commission decided to postpone them. On June 10, 2022, the party finally conducted elections, however the ECP rejected it on the grounds that the party had changed its constitution only two days before.
