"Highlights of the Israel-Hamas conflict: Hamas claims that the second hostage release won't happen 'til Israel provides aid to northern Gaza.'"

On Friday, twenty-five captives in the Gaza Strip were freed, including twelve Thai nationals and thirteen Israeli women and children. After hours of negotiations, Israel and Hamas agreed to a truce, which results in the release of this first set of prisoners. 39 Palestinian detainees and inmates were freed from Israeli custody as part of the prisoner swap. It was the first quiet night for Gazans in seven weeks of fighting. For 42 Palestinian inmates, 14 additional Israeli captives were supposed to be freed; however, Hamas said that the release would be postponed "until Israel commits to letting aid trucks enter northern Gaza." As a result, this blog will be closed for the time being. Tomorrow, we'll be back with the most recent information from Ground Zero. Good night.
