In light of China's ongoing respiratory illness outbreaks, think tank GTRI said in a research that India may become a major global manufacturing center by strengthening its supply chain capabilities and making investments in the country's healthcare system.

India may take advantage of its labor force and manufacturing capacity in industries like laptops and mobile phones, according to the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). Numerous epidemics in China, including COVID-19 (2019), H7N9 bird flu (2013), H5N6 bird flu (2014), and H10N3 bird flu (2021), have reportedly been linked to human-animal interaction. While the effects of these epidemics varied, COVID-19 in particular became a worldwide pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic in particular has forced a reevaluation of global supply networks and the dependence on Chinese manufacturing. To reduce risks, businesses are thinking about strategies like outsourcing or diversifying their supply chains.

Co-founder of GTRI Ajay Srivastava said, "India has an excellent chance to benefit upon this trend by enhancing its supply chain capabilities as well as investing in health care infrastructure." Additionally, he said that India is recommended to establish its own independent monitoring centers in order to better plan for and react to future health emergencies, in response to critiques of the WHO's and China's handling of COVID-19. According to the paper, the start of cold weather and the easing of COVID-19 limitations have been related to an upsurge in respiratory infections among children in northern China from mid-October 2023.

In a statement released on November 26, the Health Ministry said that the Government of India was keeping a careful eye on the issue and that no concern should be raised. According to the survey, China manufactures the majority of laptop components domestically and provides more than 90% of them. This also holds true for EV batteries, solar PV cells, and washing machines. "The world will suffer if supply lines are disrupted for any reason," it said. Covid has shown how important medications are.In this situation, local needs for mobile phones are necessary to feed the globe." Additionally, we should applaud India's efforts to produce computers." India can benefit from the trend toward diversity by strengthening its supply chain.

It implies that the government should support manufacturing even more in areas where India can expand quickly or has a competitive edge. "International stakeholders can be reassured about India's resilience in the face of global challenges by establishing an solid foundation for crisis management, encompassing pandemic preparedness," it said.
