Four people are arrested during the Pakistan-Bangladesh cricket match due to their flag waving at the 2023 World Cup

Four people were detained for a short while at the Maidan police station on Tuesday for flying a Palestinian flag during the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh World Cup cricket match at Eden Gardens.

"After being questioned briefly, all four of the suspects have departed Maidan PS. They are Bally, Ekbalpore, and Karaya PS locals, according to a senior police official.

The IPS officer told PTI, "We was holding them for waving the Palestinian emblem near Gate 6 and Block G1."

According to the authorities, the captives did not shout any slogans.

"Initially, police officers stationed at Eden Gardens were unable to comprehend the protestors' activities," he said. They then raised the flag of Palestine before being taken into custody. But they didn't hold up a slogan."

The four people, who are all in their mid-twenties, seemed to have been using the international cricket match as an instrument to protest against the current Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, according to PTI, which cited sources with the Kolkata Police.

Live: Israel-Gaza

The 26th day of the conflict between Israeli forces and Gaza-based Hamas rebels has begun. The information provided by the Hamas spokesman runs counter to the images and accounts of the October 7 attack, which claimed the lives of at least 1,400 Israelis and foreigners. 250 people were killed as the Hamas attack also ransacked the Supernova Music Festival.

The unexpected assault not only revealed the shortcomings of the world's most sophisticated defense and monitoring systems, but it also set off a widespread offensive in many areas of Gaza.

Over 8,500 people have died as a consequence of Israel's retaliatory shelling, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, as reported by AFP. This has caused great outrage in the area and raised fears about the prospect that Gazan refugees may attempt to flee over the Egyptian border.
