Following a 24-hour manhunt, "ISIS terrorist" Wajihuddin from Uttar Pradesh was taken into custody in Chhattisgarh.

Officials reported that on Wednesday, a combined team of the Uttar Pradesh ATS and the Chhattisgarh police took a suspected "ISIS terrorist" into custody in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh.

Wajihuddin, an Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, resident, was detained from Smriti Nagar in the district's Supela police station area, according to a statement from Durg Police.

"An Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) unit of Varanasi (UP) came to Durg to track after Wajihuddin against whom a case had been filed registered under the pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, by the ATS Lucknow," added the statement.

"He was apprehended following a 24-hour-long search operation," the press announcement said.

Wajihuddin was turned over by Durg police to the UP ATS, and other court-related procedures were being completed, it said.

"During the initial questioning, Wajihuddin disclosed that he was connected to SAMU (Students of Aligarh Muslim University) and advocated for the beliefs of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, a terrorist organization based in the Middle East)," the press statement said.

It said he was connected to Mohammad Rizwan, an ISIS member who was detained by the Delhi police.
