District looking at brawl at East Ridge High School that was fueled by race

INWOODBURY, MN  One of the kids involved in the brawl at East Ridge High School on Wednesday used a racial insult.

The altercation took place in a school restroom at around 2:00 p.m.

The school has been receiving videos of the altercations. In the footage, another kid is seen choking one of the students who is on the ground. The student is once thrown around the restroom while still in a chokehold.

A portion of the email sent to parents by the South Washington County School District said, "We were made aware of video material that captured details of physical actions as well as hateful language, including the "n-word," throughout the fight."

Principal Jim Smokrovich remarked, "We realize that incidents like this having an impact on our entire community." "Our primary focus is the welfare of our kids. Our first goal is still the welfare of our kids.

What transpired at the school before the filming scenes is unknown. But it doesn't matter to parents like Shanka Gessod.

It's mostly a human issue. And it's less about the child and what's going on inside than it is about the race, you know. Therefore, I don't want it to go unpunished as I don't want the school to make an effort to downplay the circumstances," Gessod said.

While the event is being looked into by school administration, they are requesting that any students with knowledge come forward to the main office or via the school's private tip line.

The district said in its statement that it will adhere to the student handbook's disciplinary guidelines.

However, it's unclear what steps—if any—have been done.
