Designer Davide Renne of Gucci and Moschino passes away at age 46
Davide Renne, 46, an Italian fashion designer, passed just nine days after taking on the role of creative director at Moschino.
Moschino's parent company Aeffe announced that he passed away in Milan on Friday, citing "a sudden illness" as the reason of death.
Renne has spent over two decades as the head of Gucci's womenswear department.
"There are no words to characterize the pain we are experiencing at this historic time," said the chairman of Aeffe.
"Despite having only been with us for a little period of time, Davide was able to win our respect and affection right away. Massimo Ferretti stated in an Instagram message, "Today we have the duty of continuing what his imagination and creativity had only dreamed."
July 1977 saw the birth of Renne in Follonica, Tuscany.
Prior to joining Gucci in 2004, he worked as an apprentice for Italian fashion designer and mentor Alessandro Dell'Acqua, having attended both the University of Florence as well as Polimoda fashion school.
Renne was named creative director of Moschino in October, and his first collection for the brand was scheduled to make its Milan Fashion Week debut in February.
"Franco Moschino had a reputation for the space in his studio - la sala giochi, the playroom," Renne said at the time of his employment.
This strikes a deep chord with me: the greatest impact that fashion, and specifically Italian fashion and the Moschino house in particular, can have should be achieved with a playful, joyful spirit. a spirit of exploration and experimentation.
A number of well-known people in the fashion business have paid their respects via social media, with several comments left on Renne's Instagram pictures.
Renne was called "a true true angel" by Harris Reed, creative director of Nina Ricci, while model and singer Karen Elson stated, "My heart breaks." Rest in peace, sweet Davide."
Dell'Acqua, Renne's coach, wrote on Instagram, saying, "Goodbye, Davide! You'll remain in my heart forever."
