Delhi, New. The Delhi Jal Board Contractors Welfare Association has now also addressed the issue of Jal Board's financial shortfall. The Jal Board and the Water Minister of the Delhi Government, Atishi, have received a letter from the organization alerting them of the need to cease drinking water and sewer repairs as of Monday.
A significant sum has been underpaid for almost nine months.
According to the organization, the contractors have not paid the Jal Board a substantial sum for around nine months. The Water Board has already been notified of this. However, the association has decided to halt the leak from the water pipeline, settle the complaints of polluted water, water supply and its maintenance, tube wells, and pumping stations owing to non-payment of dues. This decision was made after a meeting with all contractors. Sewer maintenance and cleaning operations will be suspended.
Will pick up where I left off once paid
The general secretary of the organization, Vinay Mangla, said in a letter dated November 24 that unless dues are paid, work would not continue. Only once payment has been received will the job be resumed.
Notably, on November 21, Water Minister Atishi sent a letter to the Lieutenant Governor claiming that, at the recommendation of Delhi Government Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Principal Finance Secretary Ashish Verma had suspended the Jal Board money.
Water Board unpaid amount of 910 crore
Then, he had claimed that the Jal Board was still owed a sum of Rs 910 crore for the second payment. The Principal Finance Secretary consistently withholds funding from the Jal Board, alleging various objections each time.
This might have an impact on the Delhi drinking water issue as well as sewerage management projects. Following this, the Jal Board released a statement in which it denied the prospect of a drinking water scarcity brought on by a lack of funding and said that it was prepared for any emergency involving the provision of drinking water and sewage management.
