Delhi pollution: going forward, only electric, CNG, and BS-VI buses are permitted to travel between Delhi and the NCR | Details here

The Commission for Air Quality Management said today, November 1, that only CNG, electric, and BS-VI compliant diesel buses would be allowed to operate between Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in an effort to reduce pollution and enhance air quality.

The authorities in Delhi and the National Capital Region have been directed to limit the emissions from buses that run on diesel in order to tackle the growing pollution levels in these areas, which are exacerbated by seasonal variations.

As of right now, all buses that travel between Delhi and other towns and cities in Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and the National Capital Region (NCR) must be either electric, run on compressed natural gas (CNG), or be BS-VI diesel buses.

The instruction also said that starting on January 1, 2024, all buses traveling from Rajasthan's non-NCR districts to Delhi must be electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel vehicles. On April 1, 2024, all buses operating in Uttar Pradesh's eight districts that are part of the National Capital Region (NCR) must be diesel buses that comply with BS-VI standards.

FROM TODAY, ONLY CNG, EECTRIC, AND BS-VI WILL BE ALLOWED IN DELHI

In the meanwhile, the government of Delhi has mandated that all buses arriving in the nation's capital from Haryana must operate on electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel. As of Wednesday, buses traveling from the NCR areas of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan must also adhere to these rules.

In a circular sent to Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, the transport department shared the rules for buses that would be permitted to operate between Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) starting on Wednesday.

The circular stated: "As of January 11, 2023, only EV, CNG, or BS-VI diesel buses would be used to run all state government bus services between any city or town in the state of Haryana and Delhi. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among others."

Beginning on January 1, 2024, all bus services from Rajasthan's non-NCR districts to Delhi must be provided by EV, CNG, or BS-VI diesel buses. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among other things," the statement said.

In the state of Uttar Pradesh, all bus services between any NCR city or town and Delhi must be run only by EV, CNG, or BS-VI diesel buses as of November 1, 2023. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among others."

"BS-VI diesel compliant buses must also be assured for all 1,433 state government buses traveling between non-NCR portions of the state and Delhi and NCR areas of other states beginning on July 1, 2024. This will also apply to bus services run by private companies and State PSUs, among others."
