Delhi- Air quality is still classified as serious; LG will quickly speak with Arvind Kejriwal

As the air quality in the nation's capital becomes dangerous to breathe, Delhi L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena has called an urgent meeting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal due to the concerning scenario. It seems anticipated that the meeting will take place on November 4 at 6 p.m.

On November 4, the Delhi-NCR air quality significantly declined and crossed the "400" danger level on a 500-point scale. In several regions, the AQI has risen to concerning levels. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data shows that Anand Vihar station, Punjabi Bagh station, and Mundka station reported AQI values in the "severe" category, which is over 400 AQI threshold. In many places, the amount of PM2.5 has increased by 7 to 8 times the acceptable limit of 60 micrograms per cubic meter, which may lead to respiratory and health issues.

The national capital's air quality is becoming dangerous to breathe, which is why Delhi L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena has called an urgent meeting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The meeting is most likely going to start at six o'clock.

In light of the circumstances, elementary schools in the capital were closed yesterday and non-essential building activity was prohibited. Both gasoline and diesel cars operating in and around Delhi are subject to restrictions.

Government authorities have issued a warning, citing a spike in agricultural fires along with an anticipated dip in temperature and air speed as reasons why pollution levels in Delhi-NCR might become worse over the next 15 to 20 days. The national capital's skyline is covered in a hazy haze, and this condition is predicted to persist for the next several days.

On November 2, the National Capital Region (NCR) was subject to a set of limitations enforced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) under the third phase of the grades response action plan (GRAP). The air quality status, weather forecasts, and data from the IMD/IITM air quality index were all thoroughly evaluated by the GRAP Sub Committee. It has been concluded that an escalation in the state of air quality is anticipated. In order to avoid further worsening of the overall air quality in the NCR, the Sub Committee has decided that it is essential to adopt Stage III of GRAP, which is designated for 'Severe' Air Quality (AQI > 400), with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, Delhi's Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, asked the Lieutenant Governor (LG) to take action against the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) chairman at a meeting held at the LG's home. Rai claimed that the Real-Time Source Apportionment System and the Smog Tower had been shut down by the chairman without the cabinet's consent.

Gopal Rai, the environment minister for Delhi, voiced worries about the declining air quality index during a late-night inspection at the Anand Vihar bus terminal on Friday. He was especially concerned about the Anand Vihar region, where the index alarmingly hit 999 at night. Rai attributed the pollution on the BS3 gasoline and BS4 diesel automobiles that are imported from Uttar Pradesh. He implored the Uttar Pradesh administration to stop delivering these automobiles, which are prohibited, to Delhi.

Rai further emphasized that while the Anand Vihar bus depot has been getting cars from Uttar Pradesh that are prohibited, Delhi only has buses that run on electricity and CNG. He asked the Uttar Pradesh government to restrict the use of these cars since they produce a lot of smoke. In addition, he drew attention to the fact that the government is still importing BS3 and BS4 cars into Delhi despite having stopped all building there and outlawed their usage, which is making the city's pollution issue worse.
