Online rumors that Foxconn had to pay 180 billion yuan ($24.60 billion) in taxes as a result of recent probes were refuted on Thursday. The company said that the "false content" had severely damaged its brand.

The business added that there were rumors circulating on social media platforms claiming it owned around 20,000 football fields that the Chinese government was planning to reclaim.

In a statement released on its official Weibo account, Foxconn claimed that its manufacturing and operations were continuing as usual and that it has always adhered to legal and compliance procedures.

The Chinese government's tabloid Global Times revealed on October 22 that the country's natural resources department had carried out on-site investigations into Foxconn enterprises' land use in the provinces of Henan and Hubei, among other places, and that several of the company's major Chinese subsidiaries were the target of tax audits.

In response, Foxconn released a statement that did not address the accusations.
