According to an official, of the 111 petitions for permission to import laptops, PCs, and other IT hardware goods, the government has approved around 110 of them. According to the official, the following firms have been approved: Siemens Ltd., Bosch Ltd.; ASUS India; Lenovo (India); Samsung India Electronics; Xiaomi Technology India; Cisco Commerce India; Dell International Services India; Appl India; HP India Sales Pvt Ltd.


According to the source, up to 111 applications have been submitted so far asking for permission to import IT goods. The government changed the restrictions on laptop and computer imports last month, enabling importers to import IT gear from abroad with only a "authorization" after providing information on the shipment's value and quantity. The goal of the new "import management system" is to keep an eye on computer, tablet, and laptop shipments entering the nation without affecting market supply or imposing onerous licensing requirements.


To far, over 110 import authorizations have been granted. Authorizations have previously been obtained by all significant IT hardware vendors. All applications are being processed within the allotted period. As of right now, there is no pendency, the official said.
