'View Once' option for voice notes is now available in WhatsApp's newest privacy feature beta test
According to reports, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is preparing to roll out a feature that would let users on both iOS and Android mark voice notes as "view once," similar to the capability that is already available for other sorts of material. The general user base will soon have access to this functionality, which is now undergoing beta testing.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, the instant messaging app is offering self-destructing voice notes as a new privacy feature to its beta users. In the current version of WhatsApp, users have the option to share photos and videos with their friends with the 'see once' setting selected. Now, voice notes will now have access to the same capability.
Specific beta testers using WhatsApp beta for Android via the Google Play Store and WhatsApp beta for iOS through the TestFlight app are reportedly getting access to the functionality. WhatsApp beta versions 2.23.21.15 and 2.23.22.4 for Android are among those that may enable the 'view once' option for audio messages, while WhatsApp beta version 23.21.1.73 for iOS is supposedly the one that can support this upgrade.
In addition, WABetaInfo released images of the under-testing functionality, including the voice message chat interface's distinctive "view once" symbol. Users may send the voice note in 'see once' mode by touching this icon. This feature's enabled voice notes cannot be listened again, stored, or shared.
Recall that WhatsApp previously disclosed ambitions to make a password-free passkey functionality available to Android users. By removing the need for traditional two-factor SMS authentication, which may be both unsafe and cumbersome, this project aims to increase security and convenience.
The business said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that "Android users may simply and securely log back in using passkeys. Your WhatsApp account can only be unlocked with your face, fingerprint, or pin.
Passkeys were first tested inside WhatsApp's beta channel, but they are now prepared for distribution to all users. However, there is presently no information on whether WhatsApp passkeys would be made accessible to iPhone users.
The business has said that over the following weeks and months, Android support for passkeys would be added progressively. Passkeys provide a substitute for conventional passwords by making use of the authentication mechanisms built into your device.
