The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert stating that the deep depression that has developed over the Bay of Bengal may strengthen into a cyclone by Monday evening.
After forming, the cyclone will be known as "Hamoon," a name provided by Iran.
The system moved northeastward on Sunday night and is now positioned in the west-central Bay of Bengal.
It is centered at 400 kilometers from Paradip in Odisha and 550 miles from Digha in West Bengal.
Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated at a few locations in coastal Odisha on October 23 and at numerous locations on October 24–25 under the effect of the Cyclone Hamoon system.
On Monday, a few locations in the coastal districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri had light to moderate rainfall.
Rainfall forecasts were produced for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal by the IMD Bhubaneswar center starting at 8.30 am on Tuesday.
The Odisha government has ordered the administration to evacuate residents in low-lying regions in the event of severe rain while also advising all district collectors to be ready for any situation.
Fishermen have been warned not to travel into the deep oceans by the agency responsible for developing fisheries and animal resources.
According to the IMD's most recent forecast, Hamoon will lose strength as it got closer to the Bangladesh shore. On Wednesday, the system is expected to traverse between Khepupara and Chittagong.
