Schedule for Assembly Elections: On Monday, the Indian Election Commission announced the dates for the elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Mizoram, and Chhattisgarh. While Chhattisgarh will have polls in two stages, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram will hold elections in a single phase.


On November 7, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh (Phase 1), Chhattisgarh (Phase 2), Rajasthan, November 23, and Telangana (Phase 30) will hold their elections. On December 3, there will be a vote count.


In these five states, there are 16.14 crore registered voters, according to the Election Commission. There are 8.52 lakh Mizo, 2.03 crore Chhattisgarh, 5.6 crore Madhya Pradesh, 16.14 crore Rajasthan, and 3.17 crore Telangana. The Commission further said that there were 7.8 crore female voters compared to 8.2 crore male voters.




"Mizoram has 8.52 lakh registered voters, 4.13 lakh of them are male and 4.39 lakh female. 1.01 crore male voters and 1.02 crore female voters are registered in Chhattisgarh. There are 2.88 crore male voters and 2.72 crore female voters in Madhya Pradesh. 2.73 crore male voters and 2.52 crore female voters are registered in Rajasthan. According to information provided by the EC, there are 1.58 crore male voters and 1.58 crore female voters in Telangana.


The first-time voting of 60 lakh people between the ages of 18 and 19 will take place in the elections of the five states. Over 2900 polling places will be run by young people, according to the EC, in an effort to encourage young votes. 50,611 of the 60.2 lakh new voters across five states are in Mizoram, followed by 7.23 lakh in Chhattisgarh, 22.36 lakh in Madhya Pradesh, 22.04 lakh in Rajasthan, and 8.11 lakh in Telangana. 


In 5 states, there are 17.34 lakh voters who identify as persons with disabilities (PWD). According to the EC, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana all particularly vulnerable tribal groups have 100% membership. 


In compared to the last assembly elections in 2018, according to the EC, the gender ratio of the electoral rolls has improved in all five states.


A total of 1.77 lakh voting places will be established, of which 1.01 lakh will provide webcasting services, according to the election administration. The announcement said that 17,734 mock voting places will be put up.


The EC also noted that a polling booth had been established near the border between Odisha and Chhattisgarh, saving villagers 8 kilometers of travel time. Similar to this, a polling place has been put up in Mamjohli, Barmer, only for the 49 local voters.


The C Vigil app was also introduced at the time. Anyone in the election-bound state will be able to report infractions of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which is in place as of right now. Within minutes of seeing an act of misbehavior, citizens may promptly report it, according to the EC.


For recording, reporting, and resolving infractions, use a single app. The 100-minute period includes the recording of GIS location with response. The citizen may choose to remain anonymous if they so want, according to the EC.



CEC Rajiv Kumar said, "Polls in the 5 states hold a unique significance as they serve as the final assembly elections before the grand stage of the National Elections in 2024." Additionally, he guaranteed that ECI will hold free, fair, and uninhibited elections in these five states.

Of the five states, Telangana is now led by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh by the Congress party, and Madhya Pradesh by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Mizo National Front (MNF) presently controls Mizoram.


The terms of the legislative assemblies of Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh expire in January 2024, while those in Mizoram expire in December of current year.


The five state elections are significant because they take place months before the Lok Sabha elections in April or May of the following year.


In Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, Congress and BJP are the dominant forces. A triangle election between the governing Bharat Rashtra Samithi, Congress, and BJP is anticipated in Telangana.
