Test flight for the Gaganyaan Mission: When, Where, and What to Expect? Look here

The Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission would include unmanned flight experiments, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) stated on Monday.

Mission Gaganyaan: ISRO will start unmanned flight experiments for the Gaganyaan mission, the organization said on X. The Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1), which will show off the effectiveness of the Crew Escape System, is now being prepared.

On Saturday, October 21st, beginning at 8 AM IST, the Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1) for the Gaganyaan mission is slated to launch from the First launchpad at SDSC-SHAR in Sriharikota.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), which has its Bengaluru headquarters, will try a successful launch of its Test Vehicle (TV-D1), a single-stage liquid rocket, on October 21 at 8 am, according to PTI.

The first development flight Test Vehicle (TV-D1) is in its last phases of preparation, according to the official announcement. A single-stage liquid rocket called the Test Vehicle was created for this abort mission. The Crew Module (CM) and Crew Escape Systems (CES) with their quick-acting solid motors, as well as the CM fairing (CMF) and Interface Adapters, are the payloads, according to ISRO.

By launching a crew of three people into a 400-kilometer orbit for a three-day trip and guaranteeing their safe return by landing in the Indian Ocean, the Gaganyaan project seeks to show off the potential of human spaceflight.

The TV-D1 test flight launch will be live streamed on ISRO's website and social media channels in addition to being shown on the DD News Channel.

After integration, the Crew Module conducted a number of electrical tests at ISRO's laboratory in Bengaluru, including an acoustic test, before being sent to SDSC-SHAR on August 13. Before being fully integrated to the Test Vehicle at the Launch Pad, it will first undertake vibration testing and pre-integration with the Crew Escape System at SDSC, according to further information from ISRO.

As a nearly finished system is integrated for a flight test, this Test Vehicle mission with this CM represents an important milestone for the entire Gaganyaan program, it was said.

Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi examined the Gaganyaan Mission's preparations.

The Department of Space provided a thorough overview of the Gaganyaan Mission, encompassing numerous technologies created so far such human-rated launch vehicles and system validation, according to the PIB announcement. There are scheduled to be around 20 significant tests, including 3 flights for the Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM3) without crew. On October 21, the Crew Escape System Test Vehicle will conduct its first demonstration flight. The mission's preparedness was assessed during the conference, and its launch in 2025 was confirmed.
