Sunak talks with Israeli President Herzog in an effort to prevent an escalation since "Palestinians are victims of Hamas" | 10 points

Israel-Hamas conflict news Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's conflict with Hamas militants has brought Rishi Sunak of the UK to Israel. After rumors of an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ground assault in Gaza, Sunak pays a visit.

According to Sunak's office, PM Sunak met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Thursday in Israel, where they both emphasized the need to prevent further escalation of regional violence.

"The Prime Minister and President Herzog emphasized the urgent need to stop the violence in the area from escalating further. To that aim, they decided to keep cooperating, according to a statement released by Sunak's office.

The statement claimed that Sunak and Herzog also decided to keep pushing for the release of British people held captive in the crisis.

Israel's president, Isaac Herzog, tweeted after his meeting with British Prime Minister Sunak, "During such tough days, we see clearly who are the genuine allies of the State of Israel. Thank you, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom, for visiting Israel and for standing firmly in favor of the Israeli people. It is time to speak with a strong moral voice since this conflict involves universal human principles. The whole world must realize that if we don't stop Hamas and other terrorist groups from carrying out heinous and unlawful assaults, they won't stop with Israel.

Following are 10 highlights from PM Sunak's visit:"Hamas' actions have caused harm to Palestinians. Humanitarian access must be maintained, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated.

"I am in Israel, a country that is grieving. I share your sorrow and will fight beside you to stop the evil that is terrorism. Sunak tweeted as soon as he touched down in Tel Aviv, "Today and always.

I'm here, above all, to show my support for the Israeli people. He told reporters upon his arrival in Israel, "You have endured an appalling, horrible act of terrorism, and I want you to know that the United Kingdom and I stand with you.

Leaders in the area and throughout the globe should unite in response to the assault on the Al Ahli Hospital in order to prevent further, risky escalation of the war. I'll make sure the UK leads this effort," he promised.

Sunak's travel falls in line with that of James Cleverly, the foreign secretary of the United Kingdom, who started a multi-nation tour of the Middle East on Thursday night in an attempt to stop the crisis from spreading across the region and to promote a peaceful conclusion.

Western leaders are lining up to see Netanyahu as the death toll rises as a result of Israel's relentless bombardment of Gaza in an effort to stop the crisis from spreading to other nations.

Sunak's visit comes after that of US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Sunak had earlier on Wednesday claimed that British intelligence was moving quickly to determine who was responsible for the explosion at the Gaza hospital. In his speech to the House of Commons, he cautioned against "rushing to judgment."

Sunak must manage challenging home politics as he gets ready to meet other regional leaders. According to Bloomberg, the Israel-Hamas war has increased complaints of both Islamophobia and anti-Semitic attacks.
