Several Leftist students are detained by Delhi police for participating in an anti-Israel demonstration

According to Abhigyan, the head of AISA's Delhi chapter, police arrested 200 demonstrators close to the Israeli embassy.

On Monday, Delhi police apprehended a number of Leftist students who attempted to stage a pro-Palestinian demonstration close to the Israeli embassy.

The police, according to the student organizations, "attacked" and "dragged" several protestors before arresting them, they said.

Around 1pm, a group of students from Delhi University, JNU, and Jamia Millia Islamia had gathered to undertake a protest march to the embassy. To prevent them from getting to the embassy on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, the police had up barriers.

The police arrested over 200 demonstrators close to the Israel embassy, according to Abhigyan, the head of the All India Students Association's (AISA) Delhi section, which is supported by the CPIM Liberation.

"I, along with several AISA activists, have been arbitrarily detained and we are being taken to Najafgarh," he said.

Abhigyan said that "many of our friends have been injured" and accused the police of engaging in "a deeply violent attack on protesters".

Why do the Delhi police suppress all support for Palestine? Delhi residents have shown that India supports Palestine in its fight against the brutal occupation, he remarked.

Israel had started a full-fledged offensive against the Palestinians, according to a statement by Students Federation of India (SFI) leader Aishe Ghosh, who has the support of the CPM. Hundreds of people had been slain.

SFI Delhi called for a protest outside the Israeli embassy in India "to demand aid to humanity from the Indian government as well as the governments across the world," according to a statement from SFI.

Many protesters were arrested before the event even began due to the strong police presence. They were violently taken away from their cars and the Metro stations. The hundreds of students who attended the event were also assaulted by police. Numerous protesters sustained injuries.

The SFI said that it "condemns the Indian government's weak international stance and their support for Israeli human rights violations in the Gaza strip" in addition to the assault on students who were supporting Palestine.

A policeman said that since the students did not have authorization for the march, they were stopped as they attempted to march near the embassy.
