Mahua Moitra's first formal remark in the Cash-for-Query controversy was, "Will take action after...

The Trinamool Congress said on Sunday that necessary action will be taken after the parliamentary inquiry into the cash-for-query charges against party legislator Mahua Moitra.

Mahua Moitra allegedly got pricey gifts or payment to inquire about Gautam Adani in Parliament. Former acquaintance of the TMC leader Jai Anant Dehadrai filed a separate case against Moitra with the CBI.

Mahua Moitra responded by filing a defamation case against them with the Delhi High Court. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has sent Dubey's complaint to the Ethics Committee of Parliament.

The BJP legislator Nishikant Dubey and Dehadrai have been summoned by the Lok Sabha's ethics commission to testify before the panel on October 26.

Vinod Sonkar, the chairman of the ethics committee, has promised that the committee would draw a decision after looking into every aspect of the "Cash for Query" affair. He said that the TMC MP's accuser, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, has been summoned to appear in person with the supporting documentation.

Derek O'Brien, a Rajya Sabha MP, said to PTI that although Moitra has explained her stance about the accusations made against her on the advise of her party, the party leadership will wait for the findings from the parliamentary panel before making a "appropriate decision."

"The party leadership has urged the concerned member to explain her stance with respect to the accusations made against her. That's what she's already done, O'Brien added.

"However, since the matter have to do with an elected MP, her privileges and rights obliged, let the matter be investigated by the right platform of Parliament, after which the party's top brass will take an appropriate decision," he said.

The TMC has previously seemed to separate itself from the debate surrounding the claim made against the Lok Sabha MP.

According to Dubey, Moitra used to accept money from Darshan Hiranandani, the millionaire businessman's son, in return for pressing a certain subject in Parliament.

He claimed in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla that "bribes were exchanged amongst her and businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in Parliament in exchange for monies and gifts." He urged for the TMC MP's "immediate removal" from the House.

The industrialist has denied allegations that he exploited the TMC MP's login information to ask himself questions about the Adani group. The TMC MP also allegedly requested favors and gifts from Hiranandani, according to Hiranandani.
