Israel wants Guterres' immediate resignation in response to the UN chief's comments about the Hamas assault

On Tuesday, the Israeli envoy to the UN asked that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres quit immediately for tolerating Israel's wholesale massacre of children, women, and the elderly.

The @UN Secretary-General, who displays compassion for the campaign of mass murder of children, women, and the elderly, is not suited to run the UN, stated Ambassador Gilad Erdan in a post on X (previously Twitter). I demand his resignation right now.

"Talking to individuals who express sympathy for the most heinous crimes perpetrated against Jewish people and Israeli citizens serves neither a purpose nor a justification. Simply said, there are no words.

Erdan added that the UN chief's comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict demonstrated his utter ignorance of Israeli realities and his morally repugnant interpretation of Hamas' missile strike.

"The shocking speech by the @UN Secretary-General at the Security Council getting together, while rockets are being fired from the skies of Israel, proved conclusively, in addition to any doubt, that he is completely disengaged from the reality in our region and the way he views the massacre performed by the Nazi Hamas terrorists in a distorted as well as immoral manner," he said.

After Antonio Guterres expressed his comprehension of terrorism and murder by saying, "The attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum," the comments were made. It's really incomprehensible. It is very tragic that the leader of a group that was founded in the wake of the Holocaust maintains such abhorrent opinions. the tragedy

Eli Cohen, the foreign minister of Israel, canceled a meeting with Guterres in response to his remarks. In his remarks before the council, Cohen brought up pictures of Israeli kids who were being held as hostages and referred to them as innocent "victims of evil."

In addition, Bloomberg reported that he identified several of the visitors in the council chamber as families of Israelis slain or held prisoner by Hamas and played an audio clip he said was of a Hamas militant bragging about murdering Israelis.

The discussion brought to light the tensions that have developed since the Hamas assaults and Israel's subsequent bombings, which the Palestinian Authority claims have resulted in the deaths of more than 5,000 people.

It also highlighted the difficult position Guterres finds himself in as leader of the 193-member United Nations, where he must speak for both Israel and its friends as well as Iran's foes and nations like Egypt and Jordan who support Israel but disagree with some of its actions.

The UN representatives also spoke about the terrible humanitarian situation in Gaza and again demanded a quick cease-fire. Despite their condemnation of the Hamas strikes, they voiced concern regarding the size of the Israeli reaction and the ensuing harm done to civilians.

They asked Israel to reopen Gaza's cutoff power and water systems and to permit the unfettered movement of humanitarian aid. They issued a warning against the conflict's escalation or expansion.
