Every year, the Hindu goddess Durga is honored and her triumph over Mahishasura is celebrated at the Durga Puja festival. Devotees worship the nine avatars of Goddess Durga during the nine-day Navratri celebration in an effort to win her blessings.

Every day of Navratri is dedicated to one of Goddess Durga's nine incarnations. People fast according to tradition, chant shlokas for each Goddess, and don new attire. In these nine days, provide bhog and clean their dwellings.
