In the meanwhile, the meteorological service has predicted that from October 13 to 15, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand would have mild to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning.
IMD said in a statement on the departure of the southwest monsoon that "conditions are favourable for further removal of Southwest Monsoon from a few additional parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh; certain regions of Gangetic West Bengal & Odisha."
Over the following two to three days, further areas of Karnataka as well as the remainder Telangana, Maharashtra, and Central Arabian Sea will also be affected.
From Wednesday through Saturday, the IMD predicts overcast skies in the northeastern region of Sikkim, with a few brief periods of light rain or thundershowers in the early morning.
Wednesday is expected to feature light winds of 5 to 10 km/h with valley fog in some locations. On the other hand, the outlook from Thursday to Saturday calls for low breezes (less than 5 km/h) and the potential for valley fog in certain regions in the late afternoon or evening.
Furthermore, Sikkim's main thoroughfare, National Highway 10, has been severely disrupted by the flash flood, resulting in damage to both the road's surface and bridges that cross the Teesta River.
A frightening scenario has developed in the northeastern state of Sikkim in the aftermath of the catastrophe caused by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) from South Lhonak Lake, which has wrecked havoc in the Teesta basin spanning Sikkim and North Bengal. An official said that 2 of the 523 visitors who were stuck in Lachen hamlet unfortunately perished.
