 If Iran participates directly in the Israel-Hamas conflict, it will be more deadly, Ian Bremmer states: Report


Ian Bremmer, a political scientist and the founder of the Eurasia Group, issued a warning that, should Iran get actively involved, the current crisis might worsen and spread to other parts of the Middle East.


"It is quite possible that Hezbollah that has much more militarily capable and is aided by Iran could get directly involved in the fighting," he said to NDTV.


According to Bremmer, when new fronts open up, the continuing confrontation between Israel and Gaza runs the danger of becoming worse.




"A ground conflict will break out. It is unwise for a variety of reasons. It will happen quickly or without assistance for the Palestinians to flee, killing a huge number of Palestinian people. It will result in protests all throughout the globe," he said.


In the meanwhile, leaders and high-ranking representatives from the Middle East and Europe will meet in Cairo on Saturday with the main goals of securing the unfettered flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza and preventing the Israel-Hamas war from escalating into a larger regional conflict.


According to a Bloomberg article, Hezbollah, which is sponsored by Iran, said via its Al Manar TV that it had fired missiles at several points within Israel.


The Israeli military responded by confirming the fire of multiple anti-tank missiles at bordering military locations as well as the launch of around 20 missiles into Israel from Lebanon. Fortunately, there were no reported deaths, and Israel retaliated with artillery fire.


Two aircraft carriers have been sent by the US to the eastern Mediterranean as a deterrence against Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon, both of whom are Hamas allies. Hezbollah has also received a clear warning from France telling them not to get involved.


Israel ordered the roughly 25,000 inhabitants of the northern hamlet of Kiryat Shmona to evacuate on Friday. This order came in response to a Wednesday event in which pieces of a rocket that had been shot down in the town landed into a school playground, as local Lianne Abutbul told AFP.


An record 360,000 reserve soldiers were called up as a result of Israel's ongoing bombardment of the Gaza Strip in response to Hamas's offensive on October 7. Sadly, the attack has resulted in a large death toll of 1,400, the most of whom were civilians.


The Palestinian health ministry estimates that at least 4,137 Palestinians, including many children, have died and 13,000 have been injured in Gaza. According to the United Nations, the continued fighting has forced more than a million people from their homes.
