FBI reveals multi-million dollar crypto fraud scheme in New York run by six Indians: Report
According to media sources, the US FBI has accused six Indians in a $1 million bitcoin fraud. According to a Coindesk story, the six Indians—Shaileshkumar Goyani, Brijeshkumar Patel, Hirenkumar Patel, Naineshkumar Patel, Nileshkumar Patel, and Raju Patel—were involved in an illicit $30 million money-transfer operation.
According to the FBI's investigation, between July 2021 and September 2023, the six Indians engaged in unlawful commerce by accessing the darknet to exchange Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies for cash.
When one of the agents discovered a merchant on many dark web marketplaces who advertised a service to mail money via the US Postal Service in return for Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, the FBI started an investigation around April 2021.
According to a media report quoting a court record, law police detained a person who was shipping parcels of cash out of a post office in Westchester County, New York.
The informant met with persons three times each week and received payments totaling between $100,000 and $300,000 at each occasion. Telegram and WhatsApp were used to discuss the locations.
One of the guys made regular excursions outside of New York, including to New Jersey, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, according to the FBI probe. Two other guys traveled to and from South Carolina.
One of the individuals who was detained admitted to the police that his richest customers were hackers, some of whom got money by selling.
According to Coindesk, the six Indians had planned to use an unofficial value transfer network to send money unlawfully.
