BENGALURU: Former Xiaomi executive Manu Kumar Jain has joined G42 as the country's chief executive officer (CEO). The artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing business G42, located in Abu Dhabi, plans to grow in India.

"I am beginning a new and exciting journey after developing the largest smartphone firm and one of the largest fashion e-commerce companies in India. I'm excited to share that I'm joining G42, a pioneer in artificial intelligence, to launch a new AI business in India!, Jain said in a LinkedIn post.

Jain's nine-year employment with Xiaomi came to an end in January. He entered the smartphone business when it was beginning to establish itself in the Indian market. He held the position of global vice president and was located in Dubai at the time of his resignation from Xiaomi. Jain said in his resignation statement that he would "love to build something new," preferably in a different field. He previously co-founded the online store for fashion and leisure goods called Jabong.

"As we work to become a worldwide leader in AI, we are excited to announce that we will shortly be extending our operations into India. Manu Kumar Jain, whose name is associated with revolutionary leadership and ground-breaking achievement in the consumer technology industry, will be leading us into this next chapter of G42's development narrative, the company said on social media.

Jais, an Arabic large language model (LLM), was released as open-source software on August 30 by Inception, a G42 firm.

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and Cerebras Systems worked together to create the model. According to a statement from the business, Jais is a 13 billion parameter model that was trained on a 395 billion token Arabic and English dataset.

Additionally, G42 and Microsoft extended their collaboration in September to encompass cloud services and AI capabilities. The two businesses will also collaborate to upgrade the UAE's current data center infrastructure.
