Merry Dussehra 2023! The nine-day Navratri celebration comes to a close on Vijayadashami, or the tenth day. The Hindu calendar considers Dussehra to be a celebration of Lord Ram's triumph over the wicked monarch Ravana.


Huge effigies of the demon king Ravana are now being burned around the nation to symbolize the triumph of good over evil. Dussehra is observed this year on Tuesday, October 24.




Dasara, also known as Vijayadashami, is the culmination of the five-day Durga Puja celebrations. The celebration of Vijayadashami is said to commemorate Goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo monster Mahishasura. Goddess Durga, Saraswati, Laxmi, Kartik, and Ganesh idols are submerged in bodies of water.


As a day to commemorate the triumph of virtue over evil, Dussehra or Vijayadashami is widely observed across India. Let's look at the timings for Ravan Dahan and Vijayadashami. 


Date and time, Ravan Dahan

According to the Hindu calendar, the effigies of Ravana will be burned on Tuesday, October 24, at 5:22 p.m. Today's Ravan Dahan is permitted till 6.59 p.m. 


Date & Time of Vijayadashami

This year's Dashami Tithi began on October 23 at 5.45 p.m. and will finish on October 24 at 3.14 p.m. 


In the midst of the celebratory enthusiasm, security precautions have been established to maintain peace and order in the national capital. A total of 1,000 police officers and extra forces have been stationed in Delhi in preparation for today's Ravan Dahan. 


Fireworks are prohibited, yet yesterday, this police squad collected more than 100 kg of fireworks. The whole city has been made aware of the need for security during the Dussehra festivities, according to the police. 


The celebration also heralds the beginning of Diwali, the significant festival of lights that follows Vijayadashami by 20 days.
