 BITS Pilani opens the Rakesh Kapoor Innovation Center to advance education



A specialized "Rakesh Kapoor Innovation Centre" with an emphasis on entrepreneurship was created by BITS Pilani. The opening ceremony was held on October 8, 2023, at the BITS Pilani Campus.



At the Pilani Campus, the Rakesh Kapoor Incubation Center is envisioned as a crucial center for creativity and entrepreneurship. The Pilani creativity and entrepreneurship Development Society (PIEDS), a business incubator that was established with funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), will call the Center its home.



The center will also include a number of specialized laboratories in the field, including labs for fintech, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Additionally, it will include room for professional and academic staff members engaged in incubation activities to have their administrative offices.





In the presence of Prof. Sudhir Kumar Barai, Director, Pilani Campus, and Chief Guest Rakesh Kapoor, Former Global CEO of Reckitt Plc, the Center was opened. Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani.



Rakesh Kapoor, a graduate of BITS Pilani (Batch 1980), donated $1.2 million to the university in order to build a cutting-edge center for innovation.



"Innovation is the heart and soul of society and economic growth. I have faith that this top-notch innovation hub will nurture the skills of aspiring engineers and scientists to produce ground-breaking goods, solutions, and services that advance humankind and the environment. I really think that given the breadth and rigor of a BITS education and the pervasive innovation and entrepreneurial culture on campus, the possibilities for the next generation are endless. Nothing will make me happier than seeing the innovation center contribute to the development of an innovative and entrepreneurial culture that leads to actions we can take to improve society and the lives of people everywhere. According to a press release from BITS Pilani, Rakesh Kapoor remarked, "I am very honored that BITS picked me and placed my name on this excellent effort.



"With the opening of the BITS Innovation Centre, a new era in innovation and entrepreneurship begins. Our dedication to promoting innovation, curiosity, and cooperation is shown by this facility. The best minds will collaborate here to turn ideas into solutions and ambitions into realities, according to BITS Pilani Vice Chancellor Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao.



Several contributors received recognition for their significant contributions to the institution at the ceremony.
