Bike, meet class-7 qualification requirements." Kerala B.Tech graduates poised to ascend to the top

According to a story published by The Times of India, a large number of B.Tech graduates gathered on Friday to apply for the job description of "government office peon" in Kerala's Ernakulam district, which offers an average wage of ₹23,000 per month.

The candidates listed the many advantages of working for the government, claiming that there is no danger involved and no graveyard shift. Just a "bicycle ride" exam and Class-7 qualifying were needed.

K Prasanth, a resident of Kochi who owns a café and has a diploma in banking, said that the candidates waiting in line would get salaries above ₹30,000 if they are hired by organizations such as KSEB (the state electricity company).

"I have been trying to get an excellent position with a good income for the past few years," he said to TOI.

Even though it is a needless requirement, the state Public Service Commission continues to insist on cycling tests for peon employment in public sector firms like KSEB and KSFE (Kerala State Financial Enterprises).

According to TOI, officials plead for forgiveness while insisting that the state hasn't changed the prior rules.

According to a PSC official, office assistants used to commute by bicycle, but despite developments in transportation, the government has not modified this regulation.

Cycling exams were formerly required for a variety of job profiles under the category of "last grade servants," but the government terminated this regulation around ten years ago, and as of right now, only office assistant jobs are required to take the test, according to the authorities, who were reported by TOI.

He went on, "Candidates who are female and physically disabled are exempt from the test."

A second B.Tech graduate from Kochi, Vivek, who also showed up for the exam, said that amid the current downturn in the employment market, getting a government position with a good income has become difficult.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations said that, with over five lakh job seekers last year, Kerala had the largest number of applicants. 3.2 lakh of the 5.1 lakh job searchers are female.
