2023 ICC World Cup: Delhi For match days, Metro expands service hours and adds trains

Ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup, the Delhi Metro has expanded train schedules and introduced additional routes. Over the following four weeks, five games will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The location is close to the Delhi Gate Metro Station on the Violet Line, which runs from Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh.

"The Delhi Metro will operate extra train trips (about 24) by extending its last train timings by roughly 30 minutes on all Lines in order to prepare for the unexpected rush anticipated at the surrounding Metro stations once the game is completed. According to a government announcement, this will make it easier for spectators to use the Metro to go where they're going.

By extending the last train times on all of its lines, the Delhi Metro would operate 24 additional trips.

It has also been recommended for commuters exiting the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds to use specific interchange stations from the Delhi Gate Metro station (Line-6) to go to their final destinations.

In the meantime, the DMRC announced on Thursday that passengers would soon be able to use a WhatsApp-based ticketing service to ride on all rapid transit system corridors, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro.

Passengers can now quickly buy metro tickets using their smartphones across the whole network by sending a message with the phrase "Hi" to 91 9650855800 on WhatsApp or scanning the accompanying QR code. The Hindi and English versions of the WhatsApp chatbot are also available.

"The service now expands its coverage over the whole DMRC network, including the Gurugram Rapid Metro line, and includes all stations. Metro riders now enjoy the ease of buying tickets with just a single click, from the comfort of their homes or offices, thanks to the implementation of this WhatsApp-based ticketing system," the statement stated.
