Launch of the Honour 90 in India: Three reasons to buy, two to pass

Honour 90 has been made available in India at an introductory price of Rs 27,999. Does it merit purchase?

The Honour 90 has finally been released in India after months of anticipation, which also signifies the brand's return there after a three-year hiatus. Undoubtedly, the Honour 90 is a fascinating phone with a variety of useful and fun features. Its price is also interesting. That too, for a business that aims to distinguish itself in the competitive Indian smartphone market.

Given the feature set of the Honour 90, the initial starting price of Rs 27,999 is reasonable. What will happen after the "introductory price" period expires when the phone's price returns to its original level of Rs. 37,999 is what worries me. Well, no one is certain of what will occur tomorrow. What matters most is right now, and the Honour 90 appears to be a reasonable purchase at a cost of Rs 27,999. But ought to you purchase it? We'll give you three reasons to buy the Honour 90 and two reasons not to, though.

3 reasons to buy an Honour 90 – Safest smartphone display The Honour 90's display is absolutely top-notch, both in terms of visual appeal and security. First off, Honor's Honour 90 features an LTPO AMOLED, giving you a customizable refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

FHD+ resolution, 10-bit colours, and HDR10+ video playback are all present, but 3840 Hz PWM dimming is unquestionably the most notable feature of this display. For those who are unaware, a function like PWM dimming is crucial for smartphones. It is past time that smartphone manufacturers started taking this seriously and incorporating it into their devices.

In other words, because the screen flickers when we use our phones in low light or the dark, it can give us headaches and strain our eyes. The screen flicker still occurs with the PWM dimming feature, but it does so quickly that the human eye cannot perceive it.

PWM Dimming is crucial on phones since it helps to alleviate eye strain when using a phone in low light. The Honour 90 has the best smartphone display right now in terms of eye safety. To put the difference in perspective, the top flagships of today, the S23 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro, have 240Hz and 480Hz PWM dimming, respectively.

— The Honour 90 is a slab phone and it is a huge phone. It is also ergonomic. However, despite its size, this phone's ergonomic design really sets it apart from its rivals. The Honour 90 has a 6.7" canvas, but it has extremely thin bezels, meaning the manufacturer was able to cram a sizable display in a small space.

an extremely light body. a rearwardly curved body on all sides. In fact, the display is quad-curved at the front, so when I handled it, I never really felt the sharp edges. Finally, despite having such a large display, the Honour 90 is a really comfortable phone to use on a daily basis because it is not as wide as, say, a Nord 3 or iQOO Neo 7 Pro. Finally, the green glass back has a lovely appearance and is comfortable to handle. The Honour 90 is a massive phone that never really gives the impression that you're using a big phone, and Honour has truly nailed the design with it!

— 200MP camera captures images fit for social media: Despite lacking OIS, the 200MP primary camera captures some stunning images in bright sunlight with decent colour reproduction and high dynamic range. In fact, the camera does a great job of almost accurately exposing different colours in pictures. For images taken from a mid-range smartphone, details and exposure are fairly good, and human skin tones are also reproduced effectively. Although the 200MP camera does not feature OIS, as was already established, it does have EIS, making the 4K footage produced by the back camera some of the best currently available on any smartphone.

A better chipset would have improved Honour: The Honour 90 has some pretty amazing features, however I truly wish it had a better chipset because I'm an enthusiast. Its Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor might not be able to handle all the new activities we do with phones. Currently, smartphones are improving quickly and steadily. The Honour 90 would be prepared for the interesting things we'll do in the future if it had a better chipset. The phone would operate even more quickly with a superior chipset, resulting in smoother games, quicker app launches, and simpler multitasking. If they had chosen a more powerful chipset, like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the iQOO or the Dimensity 9000 in the Nord 3,

— The asking price is actually very exorbitant considering the phone's Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor and the absence of features like OIS in the camera, an official IP rating, and twin speakers on the Honour 90. We must keep in mind that the current pricing of Rs 27,999 is only temporary. It is somewhat sad that the Honour 90 would only receive official support till Android 15. The Honour 90 only supports up to two years of Android OS upgrades. In comparison, the Galaxy A54 offers up to 4 years of Android OS updates, while the OnePlus Nord 3 offers up to 3 years.
