 Watch As an Italian Town Experiences Flash Floods and a Mud Tsunami


The alpine hamlet is presently conducting a huge cleanup effort as layers of mud and debris continue to blanket its streets.


The continued catastrophic weather in Europe and elsewhere in the world looks unstoppable. The town of Bardonecchia in Italy has most recently been added to the list of impacted regions after the River Merdovine unexpectedly overflowed its banks, leaving the town fully submerged in muck.




The town is blanketed in mudslides as river water rushes through the town's streets, as shown in a spectacular footage that was captured on camera. As trees fall, water, mud, and debris gushe in, narrowly missing people.


According to the BBC, the flood was probably started when a landslip resulted from heavy rain that forced a mountain stream to overflow.


Fortunately, there were no recorded fatalities or missing persons. Nevertheless, the town sustained serious damage, which forced 120 inhabitants to leave. Fire and rescue personnel also had to execute operations to free several people from a camper van.


Firefighters had to rescue six distinct individuals from an overturned camper, and cars and streets were buried in thick sludge, according to Sky News. However, after an overnight search, police declared that no one was missing. On Monday, workers were busy tidying up the mess and getting ready to check on the water levels in the neighbouring Frejus River.


Alberto Cirio, the head of the region of Piedmont, wrote on Facebook, "I signed a declaration for a state of emergency for the events that struck Bardonecchia last night. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but from today's


Inspections reveal significant damage to the infrastructure, as well as to public and private properties, including the State Police barracks, which were rendered entirely inaccessible.


The Italian town of Bardonecchia is located in the Piedmont region. It is a well-known ski resort in the winter and a popular place for hiking and outdoor sports in the summer. It is located in the Alps close to the French border. It serves as a centre for both winter and summer leisure activities because to its advantageous position in the highlands.
