Ranchi: To hold municipal elections, a Backward Classes Commission must be established; MLA Sudivya Kumar may serve as its head
Sudivya Kumar Sonu, a Giridih MLA for the JMM-led government, has the potential to lead the State Backward Classes Commission. The commission must be established before the state may hold municipal elections. Municipal elections in the state may be delayed for a lengthy period if this procedure is not finished. It is significant that the Backward Classes Commission was established with approval from the State Council of Ministers.
Sudivya Kumar Sonu, a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA from Giridih, may be appointed as the head of the state's backward classes commission. For the state to hold municipal elections, the commission's constitution is required.
The election of local bodies in the state may be delayed for a lengthy period if this procedure is not completed. It is significant that the Backward Classes Commission was established with approval from the State Council of Ministers.
The Backward Classes Commission often appoints individuals with judicial service backgrounds, although the state administration prefers to nominate someone with a social and political experience.
The governing Jharkhand Mukti Morcha will continue to hold the position of commission chairman. Sudivya Kumar, a Giridih MLA, is often seen solidly supporting the state administration on political matters. Inside and outside of the parliament, he maintains a stronger public image and speaks logically.
In this category, two members will be chosen
On matters pertaining to the OBC reservation, such as location determination, he has consistently called the BJP out.
He is being informed that he is qualified for the position because of this. In addition to this, the Backward Classes Commission will be given two more members.
One of them will be from the Congress and one from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. The front-runners in the contest are Congress' former MLA Keshav Mahto Kamlesh and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's Nand Kishore Mehta. The creation of the Backward Classes Commission may soon be approved if all goes according to plan.
The commission will poll OBC
Determining OBC reservations for municipal elections is required. A social, educational, and economic survey of OBCs will be carried out if the commission is established. It can take six months or such.
The state administration may then decide to hold elections after setting the OBC reservation cap in accordance with the Backward Classes Commission's advice. If the Backward Classes Commission establishment procedure is prolonged, it might be put off for a very long period.
Municipal elections in this case can only be held following the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. There is risk involved, though. By raising this problem, the opposition may be attempting to win the OBC community's support.
The Commission advises a 50% reserve
Although it has not yet been authorised, the state administration has advocated raising the OBC reservation quota from 14 to 27 percent. The Backward Classes Commission has previously suggested raising the state's OBC reservation to 50%.
