Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed's yacht sinks in France
After striking an identifiable item off Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the French Riviera, Cujo vanished in the Mediterranean seas.
Princess Diana and her claimed boyfriend Dodi Fayed spent a few weeks on the 65-foot superyacht Cujo before their deaths in the end of summer of 1997. The famed boat has finally sunk off the coast of France after decades, according to a story by The Independent.
After striking an identifiable item off Beaulieu-sur-Mer on the French Riviera, Cujo vanished in the Mediterranean seas. After the crash, seven passengers were saved.
Due to its celebrity passengers, the boat was among the most well-known in the entire globe. Sadly, the boat is now 7,000 feet below the surface of the ocean.
The yacht's occupants contacted at 12:30 local time on July 29 according to a Facebook post from the Gendarmerie Des Alpes-Maritimes, a branch of the French military. A rescue boat arrived an hour later and discovered the yacht was half underwater.
Only a few luggage found in the kitchen and on the deck could be rescued by the gendarmes because the yacht's staterooms were already submerged, according to the statement.
Although the reason of the disaster was not made public, sources told Boat International that the ship struck an unidentified item floating close to the centre.
According to Architectural Digest, the yacht's first owner, John von Neumann, ordered its initial launch in 1972.
Other notable guests aboard the yacht were Brooke Shields, Bruce Willis, Tony Curtis, and Clint Eastwood.
The boat went into disrepair and was decommissioned in 1999 following the passing of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed. After a long period of time, Fayed's cousin Moody Al-Fayed bought it and revived it.
Later, Simon Kidston bought it.
