He reportedly stated that there are 90 openings for women in the Short Service Commission, with 10 more openings added as of June 2023, according to the news agency PTI. However, the Minister of State for Defence stated that starting in March 2023, women would be allowed to serve as officers in remount and veterinary corps as well as artillery units.


Ajay Bhatt, a minister of state for defence, added that women will be allowed to join the Indian Army's Military Police Corps in other levels starting in 2019 and become officers in the Army Aviation starting in June 2021. The ministry estimates that there will be 1,212 women overall in the Army Medical Corps (AMC) of the Indian Army by July 1, 2023. While the Military Nursing Service (MNS) has 3,841 members, the Army Dental Corps (ADC) only has 168.
